Tom Nazziola’s musicianship shines through in this delightful collection of “10 Songs for Snare Drum.” Each of these works has its own personality, and pairings of these pieces would be perfect for a recital or an audition. Mr. Nazziola’s sense of groove and style is evident in “Upfunk” and “Soft Shoe,” whereas “My Grandmother’s Washing Machine” and “Feeling Displaced” are infused with a playfulness that will push the advanced high school or college performer to expand their understanding of rhythm. There is a sense of fun in this music, but don’t be fooled.
